Road Works

Inevitably during the next 4 years, there will be some disruption on the Strand, Canning Place, Hanover Street and in the Paradise Street area. Get the latest PSDA Works Update here every week.....

The Paradise Project Development Works:  The Paradise Project completes in summer 2008.  Throughout the construction period, sections of highways works will take place.  The current road works are shown below.

Strand Street:

Between Albert Dock and James Street, the southbound carriageway has been reduced to two lanes and realigned adjacent to the northbound carriageway by way of a contra-flow in preparation for the construction of the new entrance tunnels. The northbound carriageway remains as two lanes.  This arrangement will remain in its current form until summer 2007.

Change in traffic management on The Strand.  Next main traffic switch will be towards the end of September.  2 lanes maintained in each direction.

Lower Hanover Street is now closed between Canning Place roundabout and Liver Street to allow safe construction of this area of the development.

Further roadwork’s are to be implemented on The Strand from the middle of April.  This will involve lane restrictions between canning Place and Liver Street, and Red Cross Street and James Street Junction.  2 lanes in both directions will be maintained during peak hours.

Alterations to traffic management on the Strand, due to take place late June – July.  Works in place till March 2008.

Paradise Street Pedestrian Update:

Paradise Street is closed to pedestrians and vehicles from its junction with Hanover Street right through to School Lane.  Manestys Lane and College Lane are also closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic from their junctions with Hanover Street.

The new 580 space Q-Park Liver Street is now open.  Click here for more information (PDF [43Kb]. Download time 10 seconds based on a 56k modem. Will open in a new window)

Inevitably during the next 4 years, there will be some disruption on the Strand, Canning Place, Hanover Street and in the Paradise Street area.    Dates and details of works will be issued shortly.

Grosvenor cannot re-build those streets and build 30 new buildings and a new park, underground car park, new bus station and tramline without causing some disruption.  However, Grosvenor, its contractors, the Highway Authority, Merseytravel and other agencies are giving everyone as much notice as possible through the newspapers and on radio and TV traffic reports – and on this website.  In addition they are, of course, doing everything possible to minimise inconvenience.

Closure of the existing highways on site is required to enable site works.  Procedures are currently underway and further details on progress are set out in this section.

To enable comprehensive redevelopment of the Liverpool PSDA site, the whole of the 42.5 acre area needs to be acquired to start the redevelopment process.  For further information on this, please see the Site Assembly section.

In addition to the 250 land interests on the site, there are a number of highways that need to be stopped up to enable the redevelopment, eg  South John Street and Paradise Street.  Applications for Road Closure are already made for the consented scheme and a new application will be submitted when the current planning application is approved.

All highways issues are being dealt with by Peter Mynors at Symonds who can be contacted via Grosvenor.
