LIVERPOOL ONE SECURES CINEMA ANCHOR

Grosvenor today announced that Odeon Cinemas will be the leisure anchor for Liverpool One, its £900 million retail-led regeneration of Liverpool city centre.

Odeon Cinemas will open a 115,000 sq ft 14-screen multiplex with seating for 3,000 at the centre of the 42-acre development.  Odeon joins John Lewis and Debenhams as anchors of the 2.4 million sq ft Liverpool One.

Located between South John Street and Paradise Street in the city centre, the Odeon multiplex will occupy the upper levels of a building designed by BDP.  Its entertainment offer will complement the adjacent restaurants, cafés and bars and is set to become a welcome addition to Liverpool’s night time economy.

Liverpool One is unique in both its scale and approach.  The development will create six distinct districts in the centre of Liverpool.  Each will have an offer and atmosphere of its own, utilising the existing streets of Liverpool to create a vibrant regional destination.  Below the cinema will be two large shops, which are already in negotiation with Grosvenor.

In addition to the retail and leisure offer, Liverpool One will contain two new hotels, more than 450 apartments, a new park, public transport interchange and offices.  In total, Grosvenor is creating 30 new buildings designed by different architects.

Claire Cooper, Grosvenor Head of Retail Leasing, commented, “Odeon is the perfect brand to act as the leisure anchor for Liverpool One.  The company has an innovative approach to the provision of cinemas that is an ideal match to our aspirations for the development.  Their commitment at such an early stage highlights the market’s confidence in Liverpool One.”

Amanda Steel, Commercial Property Director, Odeon Ltd, added:
“Liverpool One is an exciting development for a thriving city and it will return Liverpool to its rightful place at the top of the retail and leisure hierarchy.  We are delighted to be an anchor tenant of this innovative development.”
