HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN AND HRH THE DUKE OF EDINBURGH VISIT LIVERPOOL ONE

22 May 2008

Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh will visit Liverpool ONE as part of their visit to the city on 22 May.

Liverpool ONE is Grosvenor’s £1bn retail, leisure and residential development of the heart of Liverpool and is a symbol of the ongoing regeneration of the city centre.

The royal visit takes place as excitement builds just one week before the 29 May first phase opening of the 42-acre development.  The grand launch of Liverpool ONE will be on 30 September.

The Queen will mark the regeneration of the city centre by unveiling a plaque naming a water feature that celebrates the start of Liverpool as a great port and city and its rejuvenation starting exactly three hundred years later in the same place.

Prince Phillip will take part in the traditional Topping Out ceremony for one of the highest buildings in Liverpool ONE.

Rod Holmes, Grosvenor’s Project Director, with overall responsibility for Liverpool ONE, said:

“There was a great burst of activity around the Pool of Liverpool 300 years ago that started the growth of the second city of the Empire.  Amongst others, Grosvenor’s investment and development around the very same place has kick-started today’s remarkable rejuvenation, which has created a new sense of pride and optimism in Liverpool, as well as the tangible benefits of jobs, opportunities and a better environment.  Her Majesty’s visit is recognition of this wonderful change.”

Joanne Jennings, Chief Executive of the Liverpool ONE Management Team, said:

“Liverpool ONE will be the largest city centre regeneration project in Europe when it completes later this year.  The Phase I Opening on May 29 will make a real difference to the quality of life for the people of Liverpool.  This royal visit, in advance of opening, recognises the cultural and economic impact that Liverpool ONE will make in its revitalisation of this proud city not to mention the opportunities it will give to the city for inward investment and tourism.”
