PARADISE PROJECT TO BE INSPIRATION FOR  LOCAL PHOTOGRAPHY STUDENTS

Local photography students will be zooming in on the Paradise Project over the coming months as part of a competition organised jointly by Grosvenor and the Liverpool Community College.

The initiative challenges students to capture for posterity creative images of the city centre’s major regeneration project.  Twenty students took up the challenge when the competition was launched recently at the Liverpool Community College on Myrtle Street.  Images from the competition will be put on public display periodically at the Paradise Project Information Centre on Lord Street, as well as other venues around the city.

“The Paradise Project will have a significant impact on the whole of the city. This competition is a way of us reaching out to the wider Liverpool community and getting different people involved.  Hopefully it will inspire the students taking part to produce some exciting work that reflects the spirit of the Project.  The competition echoes the schools initiative that we launched with Laing O’Rourke recently,” said Nicola Beausire, Grosvenor’s project marketing manager.

“We’re delighted to be involved with Grosvenor, in this competition.  It will provide our students with access to some very interesting, challenging, ‘real life’ subjects and practical experience, in recording the progress in the City, as it approaches 2008,” added David Brooks, one of the course team in Photography and Imaging, at Liverpool Community College’s Arts Centre.

Sponsored by Grosvenor, the three-year competition will award prizes for the best images submitted at the end of each term and at the end of each year.  Winning students will receive vouchers of between £100 and £500 for photographic equipment and materials, which they will be able to spend at photographic suppliers, Keyphoto.
