BRANDS RUSH TO BE AT ONE WITH LIVERPOOL

17 Mar 2008

Grosvenor today announced that eight new brands, occupying a total of 60,000 sq ft, have committed to Liverpool ONE.

The news follows the recent announcements that Zara is to occupy 30,000 sq ft of space and HMV is opening a new concept store at Liverpool ONE.  The drive for space is being fuelled by a desire from retailers to be part of the first phase of Liverpool ONE, which is unveiled to the public on May 29.

Gap, Monsoon, All Saints, Principles, Liverpool Football Club, Disney,
Build a Bear and WH Smith have taken stores in Liverpool ONE’s
South John Street, the innovative development’s family-focussed district, in time to open on May 29.

The latest brands bring the total volume of space opening at the end of May to over 1,000,000 sq ft, which includes John Lewis and Debenhams, a first for Liverpool, all of South John Street and the western side of Paradise Street, the urban-fashion district, together with 3,000 parking spaces.

The industry’s sense of urgency is matched by their desire to open new concept stores at Liverpool ONE.  George Davies, for example, is bringing a lifetime of innovation and achievement in retail to Liverpool as he opens Liverpool Football Club’s new store on South John Street.  Responsible for all of LFC’s stores and merchandising, George Davies is taking sports goods retailing into new territory.

Commenting on the announcements, Neil Barber, Head of Retail Leasing at Grosvenor, said: “These latest deals, following closely behind Zara and HMV, reflect the realisation from leading retail brands that we open this year and that time is running out for them to secure the space they want in time for May 29.”

“The penny has dropped en masse that Liverpool is a force to be reckoned with and the Liverpool ONE is going to be the new industry benchmark.”

South John Street is one of five distinct districts being created within the 42-acre regeneration of the city centre.  It is a galleried, family-orientated shopping, eating, and leisure destination adjacent to Liverpool ONE’s Chavasse Park, a new five-acre public open space.  The new brands join other leading fashion brands including Republic, Oasis, Warehouse,
Jane Norman and Esprit.
