Hilton to open Liverpool hotel
27 Oct 2006
LIVERPOOL is to get its first ever Hilton Hotel as part of Grosvenor's 920 Million Pound regeneration of Paradise Street.
The world-famous group last night confirmed it is to open a hotel in a new crescent-shaped block in Canning Place, opposite the Albert Dock.
The hotel will be managed by Hilton and will open in 2008, during the city's year as European Capital of Culture.
Howard Friedman, Hilton's Area President for the UK and Ireland said last night: "This is Hilton's first hotel in Liverpool, one of the UK's fastest-growing and dynamic cities.
"The signing of the agreement marks yet another significant step forward for Hilton's development throughout the UK and Ireland, and we are delighted to be part of Liverpool's exciting future."
The hotel, which will feature 216 guest rooms over eight floors, ten Hilton Meetings rooms, a ball room, restaurant and a LivingWell Express, will be part of Liverpool One - one of the biggest mixed-use developments in Europe.
The hotel will be situated on the historic site of the world's first commercial dock, adjacent to the elevated Chavasse park that overlooks the River Mersey, one of the development's five individually designed retail and leisure districts.
Grosvenor's Ed Skeates said last night: "Hilton is the perfect brand to act as the full service hotel provider for Liverpool One, and we are delighted that the development has been chosen as the location for its first hotel in Liverpool city centre."
With planning permission granted for the development, Grosvenor plan to start soon on the project which will include luxury apartments on the upper floors, accessed through a separate entrance.
The Liverpool hotel will reflect Hilton's contemporary new look and lifestyle focus, and has been designed by London-based architects, Squire & Partners, and Aedas Architects, an international firm renowned for its innovative designs.
The design of the building will be a striking structure featuring glass and pre-cast masonry.
The building has been inspired by the famous Royal Crescent at Bath, and because of its closeness to the World Heritage Site has been designed to ensure a stunning finish.
Martin King, director of tourism at the Mersey Partnership said: "Hilton is the latest world class hotel operator to see the potential of Liverpool as a premier destination for both business and leisure travellers. The company's investment in Liverpool is very significant.
"Our destination will also benefit from the strength of the Hilton brand worldwide."
The Hilton Group has more than 2,800 hotels worldwide, with almost half a million rooms in more than 80 countries.
