15 Sep 2006

WORK is about to start on the next phase of road improvements in the Hanover Street area of Liverpool city centre.

WORK is about to start on the next phase of road improvements in the Hanover Street area of Liverpool city centre.

The revamp, between Church Street and Seel Street, is part of the Grosvenor Paradise Project, and will be finished on December 15. This is to ensure the new-look stretch of road is completed before Christmas.

The work, which is due to begin on Monday, September 25, and last for two-and-a-half months, will involve the closure of the road between Church and Seel Streets.

Engineers are confident the work to renew the road surface will be complete no later that December 15, in time for the key Christmas shopping period.

The work is the latest part of Liverpool's Big Dig, one of Europe's biggest regeneration programmes, which is creating 14,000 new jobs and injecting £3bn into the local economy. Cllr Peter Millea, the council's executive member for regeneration and trans- port, said: “The renewal of Hanover Street is a key part of the Big Dig and Grosvenor's Paradise Project, delivering a new city centre for the people of the city.” Liverpool Daily Post
