City builders feeling on top of the world

BUILDERS have reached the highest point of a showpiece apartment block in Liverpools new shopping district.
One Park West will be the biggest resident complex and tallest building in Liverpool One when it is finished in February 2009.
Developer Grosvenor celebrated today’s milestone with a “topping out” ceremony attended by city leaders.
Members of the project team and council leader Warren Bradley placed items in a time capsule, which was then embedded in concrete in One Park West’s Prow Tower. Cains beer and water from the Mersey were added to the concrete.
One Park West, which will contain 326 apartments and overlook the remodelled Chavasse Park, will open in February 2009, after the first and second phases of Liverpool ONE are ready.
Council leader Warren Bradley said: “It’s another fantastic piece of Liverpool’s jigsaw of regeneration.
Bill Butler, the concept architect from Pelli Clarke Pelli who came up with the design, described standing on top of the building as “exhilarating”.
